Termamax d.o.o. has started series production of turbocharger insulation in Obranovac, Serbia.

Termamax d.o.o., founded in June 2017, started with the series production of turbocharger insulation in mid-February in Obranovac, Serbia, on the factory premises of the Taiwanese company MEI TA Europe d.o.o.. Thermamax is thus further expanding its position as a reliable partner in the automotive sector and driving forward its international growth strategy.

After successfully passing the VDA 6.3 process audit on 02/14/2018, the Thermamax production plant in Serbia has been approved for series production. Turbochargers from renowned international manufacturers are insulated here. The project will start with the insulation of Biturbos for engines installed in various Daimler vehicles.

Thermamax d.o.o. was founded in July 2017 by the Thermamax Group on the premises of the MEI TA foundry, in Obrenovac, about 40 km from Serbia’s capital Belgrade. With the newly established assembly plant, including logistics and quality assurance, Thermamax connects directly to MEI TA’s production process. MEI TA specializes in the production and further processing of castings, especially for the automotive sector. The company aims to become the world leader in the turbocharger market with its products – turbine housings and central housings.

With the Serbian subsidiary, the Thermamax Group is responding to customer demands to ensure high product quality and to exploit potential savings by streamlining the supply chain. The finished housings are insulated with Tmax integral insulation immediately after manufacture in the same factory. This eliminates intermediate transports of uninsulated and insulated components between Serbia and Germany. Transport costs and risks are equally reduced, and a loss of quality due to additional handling is avoided. Part of the value chain remains with Thermamax in Mannheim: the design and manufacture of the foil shells and insulating fibers.

About 15 employees were initially qualified on site for the manual and semi-automated assembly of several hundred thousand insulated parts per year; with further projects, the team around a locally based operations director will grow rapidly.

“This is an important milestone in the implementation of our international strategy and, above all, a confirmation of our position as a reliable and flexible partner for the automotive industry and our commitment to this market,” comments Ralf Großhauser, Managing Director of Thermamax, on the successful start of series production in Serbia.
