Turbochargers in cars are used to get more horsepower and better fuel efficiency. Their main drawback, however, is the heat they generate in the engine bay, especially if they reach their limits and operate under extreme conditions like those in the tuning and car race/motorsport world. Undesired side effects could be a drop in power, failure of heat-sensitive components such as plastic and rubber hoses, electrical wiring, electronic components, … and damage to the paint.

Tmax-Turbo Blanket helps. It reliably insulates the turbine, keeping the hot side of the turbo hot and the cool side cool. As a result, the turbine, compressor, intercooler, and radiator can work more efficiently, increasing power and torque output and decreasing turbo lag. Preventing heat escaping from the turbine dramatically reduces the engine bay temperature which in turn means a longer life for heat-sensitive components and materials.

icon The basalt fiber fabric consists entirely of continuously drawn basalt fiber roving and stands out with its appealing carbon fiber design. The outer layer features remarkable temperature stability (up to 750 °C), low thermal conductivity, high wear resistance and chemical resistance as well as excellent mechanical properties. Due to these qualities, the outer layer reliably protects the insulation layer and provides durable insulation performance. At the same time, any surrounding temperature-sensitive components are effectively shielded from heat radiation.

Fabric made of special SiO2 fibers
icon  This is a silicate fiber fabric with additional interwoven stainless steel wires. The silicate fiber fabric is distinguished by its high heat resistance (up to 1000°C) while it also offers improved abrasion protection, which results in higher durability of the insulating blanket. Compared to the use of pure stainless steel mesh, this special fabric has low thermal conductivity, which in turn results in reduced heat transfer and a higher insulation value of the insulating blanket.   


Silicate fiber needle mat


 Thanks to its low thermal conductivity, it retains the heat inside the turbine housing, thus providing a maximum insulation effect and excellent protection of surrounding components. The high vibration and temperature resistance of the silicate fiber needle mat (depending on the applied material, SNM750/SNM1000) ensure that the insulating blanket is durable for the long term.

Temperature resistance of the possible materials:

SNM750:             1382 °F (750 °C)

SNM1000:           1832 °F  (1000 °C)

icon an additional overlocking of the seam area made of silicate fiber fabric tape with a heat resistance of up to 1000 °C ensures that the insulating blanket fits optimally on the turbine housing, thus increasing the abrasion resistance of the insulation system.  


icon the mounting system of the insulating blanket consists of stainless steel hooks. These hooks are firmly connected only to the outer layer to prevent any direct heat transfer to the hot turbine housing.

icon You get MORE POWER and a BETTER PERFORMANCE since a turbo blanket decreases spool-up time, increases power and torque output and reduces turbo lag.
The Tmax-Turbo Blanket keeps the heat in the turbine section of the turbo. This has two positive effects on the functioning of the turbocharger. One the one hand, it improves the efficiency of the turbine. In fact, heat is energy and hot gas expands faster, creating more pressure on the turbine wheel which spins up more rapidly. This equates to a quicker spool-up of the turbo, improving turbine performance, and subsequently compressor performance, i.e. an increase in overall boost pressure and decrease in the time it takes to build that pressure. 

On the other hand, covering the turbine housing with a blanket means preventing heat radiation on the compressor section of the turbo and the air inlet, keeping the intake air cool. The cooler the air is, the more dense it is, and the more oxygen it contains per unit volume. In this way more oxygen reaches the combustion chamber and enables more fuel to be burned, increasing combustion efficiency and providing improved power output.

Tmax-Turbo Blanket contains the heat in the turbine housing, preventing it from reaching and damaging temperature-sensitive components like plastic and rubber hoses, electronic parts and electrical wirings, extending their life and improving their reliability.

icon You enjoy the paint job for a longer time since the turbo blanket helps prevent PAINT DAMAGE from heat. 
Preventing the heat in the turbocharger from dissipating in the engine compartment means protecting painted surfaces like the hood, firewall or wings, thus avoiding fractures/cracks and damages to the paint. These parts are actually not designed to withstand great changes in temperature.
